Cardiac Stress Technician

Position Summary

The Cardiac Stress Technician works under the supervision of the site physician and registered nurse to perform a variety of clinical and administrative duties related to cardiac stress testing. This role is responsible for preparing patients, conducting exercise and pharmacologic stress tests, monitoring patient safety throughout testing, and providing high-quality patient care. The technician also assists with Basic Life Support (BLS) measures when directed by the supervising provider.

Responsibilities

  • Perform exercise and pharmacologic cardiac stress testing (nuclear and non-nuclear) under the supervision of the onsite physician and registered nurse.
  • Prepare patients for cardiac stress testing, including obtaining and documenting vital signs.
  • Perform and monitor 12-lead ECGs before, during, and after stress testing.
  • Review patient medical records, including current medications, past medical history, social history, and review of systems.
  • Apply ambulatory heart monitors and provide patients with clear instructions regarding their use.
  • Accurately document patient information and testing results in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Educate patients on testing procedures and answer questions to help ensure a positive patient experience.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and support efficient workflow within the cardiology team.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations and assist with Basic Life Support (BLS) when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, or a related field or successful completion of an accredited Cardiac Technician program.
  • Strong knowledge of 12-lead ECG acquisition and interpretation.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Proficiency with computers and electronic medical records (EMRs).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical environment with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Strong commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care.

Preferred

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Previous clinical experience, preferably in cardiology or cardiovascular diagnostics.
  • Experience using an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
